The 19-hour operation to fully right the Costa Concordia has been hailed as a success by the Italian civil protection agency.
The announcement, which was made at a 4am press briefing on the island of Giglio, confirmed that the ship had been lifted to 65 degrees.
Franco Porcellacchia, from Costa said: “We completed the parbuckling operation a few minutes ago the way we thought it would happen and the way we hoped it would happen.”
The wreck is now resting on platforms that sit 30 metres below sea level. It will remain there for the winter before being towed away next spring.
The news was broken to the island of Giglio by a long foghorn blast just after 4am. However, so far the bodies of the two missing passengers – Maria Grazia Trecarichi and Russel Rebello – have still not been recovered.
