The company behind Muji, the Japanese retail giant, has confirmed plans to enter the hotel sector.
The Japan Times reports that Ryohin Keikaku will launch the inaugural Muji-branded hotel in Tokyo’s Ginza district in spring 2019. T
entatively named the Muji Hotel, the property will be housed in a new-build commercial complex alongside Muji’s new flagship department store. The total development will be 10 storeys high, with the hotel perched above the department store from the sixth floor upwards.
Ryohin Keikaku’s president & representative director, Satoru Matsuzaki, was quoted saying that the Muji Hotel will be “a place where customers can thoroughly experience Muji product line-ups”.
Following the Tokyo launch, it is reported that Ryohin Keikaku is planning to open two Muji hotels in China.
