Brasil Junino seminar inspires London travel agents

Tour operators and travel agents from London participated in the two-day “Brasil Junino Seminar”, which took place on 31 May and on 1 June at the Embassy of Brazil in London. 

A group of 90 people got to know a little more about some of the lesser-known Brazilian tourist destinations.

Presentations were specifically designed for travel agents and focused on destinations that remain relatively unexplored by UK tourists.

The destinations featured included Amargosa (Bahia State), Aracaju (Sergipe State), Campina Grande (Paraiba State), Caruaru (Pernambuco State), Mossoró (Rio Grande do Norte State) and São Luís (Maranhão State).

The seminars are part of Brasil Junino, a cultural programme that aims to promote Brazil by profiling some of its famous Festas Juninas, or June Festivals, the biggest festivity in Brazil after the famous Carnival.

At the end of the presentations travel professionals were treated to a series of music performances and authentic June dances while enjoying a typical Brazilian cocktail reception. Agents also had a guided-tour organised by Edilane Oliveira curator of Brasil Junino which amazed the travel agents present with detailed history and Brazilian cultural information.

Alisson Andrade from EMBRATUR said: “The event helped to bring the diversity of Brazilian culture to London. We believe that showcasing destinations through culture stimulates genuine interest and motivates people to search for new, less-explored tourist routes”.

Brasil Junino at the Embassy of Brazil is supported by live stage performances, traditional costumes and an exhibition that takes a closer look at some of Brazil’s largest festivals. It is also taking to the street, with a schedule of daily street performances acted out in some of the London’s most famous public spaces.

Brazil Junino was opened on 27 May and runs until 4 June at the Embassy of Brazil in London. The exhibition is opens to the public from 1 pm to 8 pm.
